Lucas Piazon’s time at Stamford Bridge has come to an end, as he recently signed for SC Braga.
Piazon had been a part of the famous Chelsea ”loan army” but departed for Braga this past week. He was previously the longest-serving player at Stamford Bridge.
The Brazilian signed a four-and-half-year deal at the Portuguese club. Piazon left Chelsea on a free transfer after his contract came to an end.
As of now, Chelsea currently have 29 players out on loan for the 2020/21 season.
Many expected the Brazilian to shine in the first team but sadly this was not the case. Piazon joined as a 17-year old but few would remember much from his Chelsea career.
He made just three senior appearances in his decade at Stamford Bridge. He initially joined Chelsea on a pre-contract deal from Sao Paulo in 2011.
His only Premier League appearance against Aston Villa in 2012. An 8-0 win in which he grabbed an assist but still managed to miss a penalty.
Piazon’s other two appearances came in the League under Roberto Di Matteo. He got an assist in a 6-0 win vs Wolves in the 3rd round. His last appearance against Man United in the quarterfinal saw him get subbed off after 55 minutes.
He managed to win the FA youth cup in 2012 and won Chelsea’s young player of the year award.
The Brazilian ended up amassing seven loan spells for the rest of his Chelsea tenure. Playing for the clubs such as Chievo, Vitesse, Frankfurt, Reading, Fulham, and Rio Ave.
Piazon has done well in Portugal as he helped Rio Ave to a 5th place last year. The Portuguese league looks like the right place for him to get his career on track.
He will no doubt be happy to leave the nomadic loan lifestyle behind after finding a permanent home in Portgual.
