Frank Lampard was in good spirits as Kai Havertz and Timo Werner put in good displays against Morecambe.
Chelsea cruised to a 4-0 win against League Two side Morecambe on Sunday. As a result, the Blues booked their spot in the FA Cup fourth round. Both Kai Havertz and Timo Werner managed to get on the score sheet.
Lampard mentioned in his post-match presser, ”We understand with Timo and Kai that theyāre young lads coming into this league. Some of the greatest players who have graved this league and struggled at the start. It was a nice step for both of them.”
Much Needed Confidence Boost
Werner finally found the net, breaking his drought of 827 minutes without a goal. Havertz had a solid game, netting a goal and bagging an assist on the day.
Werner recently admitted to struggling with the pace of the Premier League, while Havertz too is still adjusting to the English game. Chelsea fans will need to be patient with the duo as they both adjust to English Football.
Lampard’s decision to start the duo was the right one, as both players needed a confidence boost. Many were debating whether to persist with Havertz and the wunderkind showed on Sunday why he’s worth the wait.
For Werner hopefully, breaking his drought is going to give him some much-needed confidence.
The forward in recent weeks looked out of sorts and lacked composure in front of goal.
Say what you want about Chelsea’s opponents but like Lampard said it was a step in the right direction for the duo. This is a game that can kickstart their debut season for Chelsea. It is the type of performance that gives the duo momentum, heading into Chelsea’s bigger games this season.
Sunday’s match came at the right time for a Chelsea team short on confidence. The Blues only won one of their last five games. This is a much-needed win for the club as a whole in all honesty.
A 4-0 win is good momentum for a Chelsea side who face local rivals Fulham next. Chelsea will aim to get back to winning ways in the league to cement their place among the league’s elite.
