Oliver Giroud is generating interest from Juventus ahead of a possible move in the January transfer window.
Reports suggest Giroud is on Juve’s shortlist along with Napoli duo, Arkadiusz Milik and Fernando Llorente. The Turin club is looking to strengthen up front to reignite their Serie A title push.
The Frenchman has eight goals in his last eight appearances for Chelsea. Giroud is also in the final six months of his contract at Chelsea a this could force the Blues to cash in on the Frenchman.
Leading the pack
Despite the limited game time, he has produced when called on. Giroud has 9 goals in 15 games this season so far. His numbers look much better than Timo Werner’s 8 goals in 24 games or Tammy Abraham’s 8 goals in 21 games.
Giroud is prolific on his day. This was on full display when bagged 4 goals away to Sevilla in the Champions League.
Olivier Giroud has looked like Chelsea’s best forward option when given the opportunity.
Timo Werner is short on confidence and in a goal drought. Tammy Abraham is a talent but struggles to show much-needed consistency, which should come with age.
Lack of game time
Olivier Giroud has had limited starts this season for Chelsea. Five of his nine Premier League appearances have come off the bench. Werner and Abraham have been used more frequently by Frank Lampard this season.
Giroud has been assured that he will get regular minutes if he stays at Stamford Bridge. This looks likely based on Chelsea’s poor form in recent games.
Diminishing Asset
At 34, Giroud is at the tail end of his career and this may tempt Chelsea to cash in on a player. Selling Giroud now would be better than losing him for nothing at the end of the season.
Losing Giroud would leave Chelsea light upfront and it’s unlikely Chelsea will want to spend more money after an expensive summer window.
