Chelsea ‘unsure’ over move for £250k-a-week star – would he be the right fit?

Chelsea are still hoping to add some striking reinforcement to their squad by the time the window shuts tomorrow.

With targets changing by the minute, it appears the club has locked onto a few players that are in discussions. However, the club is running out of time.

That could come in the form of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who is currently at Barcelona but has seen Robert Lewandowski take over the main striking duties following a good end to last season from the Gabonese international.

However, it seems that the club is ‘unsure’ over the suitability of Aubameyang despite positive talks.

Latest reports on Aubameyang to Chelsea

The latest reports claim that Chelsea have reservations over signing the former Borussia Dortmund star – most likely down to his age and high wages that are reportedly around the £220k-a-week mark.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Pierre Aubameyang deal. Meeting ongoing with Barcelona and Chelsea still discussing on deal structure and final fee. Negotiations entering into key stages.

Marcos Alonso is also being discussed as he only wants to join Barça and doesn’t want any other option. The club and the player have already agreed personal terms which has been done since April.

It seems the club is still assessing its options when it comes to forwards – with Anthony Gordon still a target.

Aubameyang the answer?

Aubameyang is being eyed as a short-term fix for their central striking issues. Romelu Lukaku failed miserably after his much-lauded £97m move from Inter Milan and now their options are Havertz and Broja.

Both are young forwards, but neither look set to be able to fire this very talented side to major honours. Tuchel will be hoping that he can turn back the clock with his former player Aubameyang and strike up a successful relationship – for at least one season.

He could easily slot into the centre-forward role, whether as a lone forward or in a two-man attack in Tuchel’s old favourite formation of 4-2-2-2. That could help boost both Havertz and Aubameyang – who both thrive with another player up top with them.

His stats show a top striker – he registers between the 85th-94th percentile for shots total, non-penalty xG and non-penalty goals.

Aubameyang thrived with Alexander Lacazette in a two-man attack and, despite being 33, he still offers quality link-up with attacking instincts and a desire to prove a certain club in North London wrong won’t hurt either.
