Chelsea are ready to move on Edouard Mendy as they look to find a new number one after Kepa Arrizabalaga showed he cannot be trusted.
The Spanish goalie has the worst shot to save ratio of any goalkeeper currently playing in the Premier League and with the Blues looking to spring back to the top of English football, Kepa simply cannot be the no.1 at Stamford Bridge.
Sources close to Chelsea Central claim that Chelsea have turned their attention to Rennes’ shot-stopper Edouard Mendy as their current first-choice target in the goalkeeping department.
Rennes finished 3rd in Ligue 1 last season, conceding just 24 goals – the same as table-toppers Paris Saint-Germain. His form was vital to the French side finishing seven places higher compared to the 2018/19 season.
Chelsea, according to our sources, are opening talks with Rennes over a permanent deal for Mendy as Lampard and the impressive Marina Granovskaia seek to ensure the Blues aren’t hamstrung this season by having an incompetent goalkeeper on the pitch.
We understand that Chelsea don’t want to spend much more than £20million on Mendy after being made to look the fool after spending £71.6million on Kepa last summer – a world record for a goalkeeper.
