Chelsea discuss possible move for £31M rated ‘baller’ – has excellent goal record for country

Chelsea have been in ‘discussions’ with Barcelona over a potential move for one of their £31M-rated forwards.

The Blues have been in contact with Barcelona over moves between the two sides for the whole of summer. Both clubs battled hard for Raphinia and Jules Kounde whilst Chelsea have signed Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and potentially Memphis Depay.

As it stands, Aubameyang to Chelsea is done, with Marcos Alonso heading the other way, however, rumours have spread surrounding a move for Depay.

With less than 10 hours until the deadline, could Chelsea confirm a double swoop for Barca’s frontmen?

Latest reports on Depay and Aubameyang

According to Gerard Romero, Depay informed Barcelona yesterday about his desire to leave the club. Barcelona and Chelsea have been speaking over the terms of a possible operation.

The two clubs have been in contact with personal terms loosely agreed. Depay’s contract runs out next summer and it makes sense for Barca to sell him now to make back some money, which is clearly important given their current financial situation. The club is

With Robert Lewandowski’s arrival at Barca, Depay has fallen down the pecking order below Aubameyang as well. He hasn’t featured in a single minute this season and the club did claim they would look to offload him earlier this summer.

However, Fabrizio Romano has claimed that there are no ‘advanced talks’ as it stands because the focus was on Aubameyang, but that deal is now complete.

The move for Depay could be a free signing, as Barcelona will terminate the contract of Memphis Depay but only if he manages to agree on a deal with another club – according to Fabrizio Romano.

Chelsea could easily sign both players to help improve their faltering attack and both would be low combined fees. Although wages could be high given Depay currently earns somewhere in the region of £172k-a-week.

Would he fit in at Chelsea?

Despite what can be described as a rocky period for the club in the last few years, especially financially, Depay has had some success at the club in July 2021.

His insistence to leave is due to a lack of game time and the fact he will be a key player for the Netherlands at the World Cup in the winter. Last season saw 13 goals and two assists in 2,494 minutes of action across all competitions; that’s a goal contribution every 166 minutes.

At Chelsea, he could slot perfectly into a fluid front three or front two – with Thomas Tuchel’s 4-2-2-2 a perfect set-up to exploit Depay’s talents. His attacking stats are impressive – he ranks between the 93rd-99th percentile for progressive passes, shot-creating actions, progressive passes received, progressive carries and passes completed (compared to other forwards)

His link-up, technical ability and overall skill will add a completely different style to Chelsea’s attack and give Tuchel variety to play a number of different line-ups and styles – something that we know he is very fond of.
