Chelsea close to agreeing swap deal for £13.5M forward – with £10.8M full-back heading the other way

Chelsea are now on the verge of completing a swap deal between their £13M main striking target and their £10M full-back.

The Blues have chased Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang for the last month with Thomas Tuchel keen to reunite with his former player.

Going the other way seemingly is Marcos Alonso, who hasn’t featured at all this season as he’s looked to push for the move to Barcelona.

With months of speculation and talks, the saga may finally be over with Todd Boerly conducting his first swap deal in what is likely to not be the final deal done today for the Blues.

Latest reports on Aubameyang

Deadline day often results in deals finally getting over the line and in Chelsea’s case, they’ve been chasing Aubameyang for well over two years now.

According to David Ornstein, Chelsea are working to finalise the terms of a proposed two-year contract for Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang with the option of further 12 months based on the player’s percentage of performances in the second year.

It seems the current bid is €7.5M plus Marcos Alonso – and the deal is on the verge of being completed in the coming hours.

Aubameyang, 33, had been the victim of a robbery in which the intruders had allegedly injured his jaw, which threatened to put this deal at risk. However, it seems the club were not put off by the potential issue and have pressed on with their interest.

Alonso featured in pre-season but has been targeting a move to Spain all summer – which was confirmed by Chelsea’s move for Brighton’s Marc Cucurella who is now the first-choice left-sided defender ahead of Ben Chilwell.

The Spaniard has been at the club since 2016 and has played a key part in many a trophy success in that period.

He enjoyed winning the Premier League, Europa League, Champions League, FA Cup, Super Cup and Club World Cup during his time in London.

He also established himself as one of the best-left wing-backs in the world, scoring 29 goals and laying on 23 assists during 212 games for the club.

With many a ‘clutch’ moment to look back on, the move seems to satisfy all parties and Chelsea finally secure a proper number nine.
