Tiémoué Bakayoko made a switch to west London in the summer of 2017. However, things have not gone as planned for the Frenchman and he is closer than ever to a Stamford Bridge exit.
Bakayoko was a key part of the stellar Monaco team that won Ligue 1 and reached the semis of the Champions League in the 2016/17 campaign. Like most of his team-mates at the time, he earned a big money move to one of Europe’s elite teams. Although, unlike most of them, his big move did not go as planned as he looks set to depart Stamford Bridge.
A wonderful 2016/17 campaign saw Bakayoko make a £40m move to Chelsea at a time when he was dubbed the “French Yaya Toure”. Expectations were always going to be high as Chelsea looked to defend their Premier League crown and he simply did not meet up to them.
His shaky start to life in west London could have been excused due to the fact that he had rushed his injury comeback as Chelsea were short of options in midfield. As the season went on, his performances however proved otherwise. He constantly gave the ball away and committed unnecessary fouls as the Blues could only muster a wimp defense of their Premier League Crown.
He went out to AC Milan and more recently Monaco on loan in a bid to re-capture his best form where he enjoyed a relatively better spell compared to his time at Chelsea but could not do enough to earn a Stamford Bridge return.
According to FranceFootball, Sevilla, as well as PSG, are interested in Bakayoko as they look to shore up their midfield. With both Ever Banega and Fernando now in their thirties, the Spanish side are looking for a long-term midfield enforcer and a 25-year-old Bakayoko seems a way to go. No fee has been reported yet but it most likely would be in the region of £15-20m.
